Buckwheat
- Improves soli health, nutrient cycling, and root structure.
- Quick germination – great choice for a ground cover between plantings.

Site Selection
- Buckwheat thrives in sandy, light, or medium soils that drain well.
- Grows best in cool, moist conditons
- It is not drought or frost tolerant
- Ideal pH is 6-7.
Planting Time
- Early spring through summer (after last frost).
- Plant when night temperatures are about 55ºF.
- Buckwheat needs 10-12 weeks to grow to maturity, so make sure you plant at least 2 months prior to fall frost.
Planting Prep
- Start with a clean and firm seed bed.
- Plant one 50 lb bag to the acre.
- If broadcasting, use 70 lbs per acre:
- Plant 1/2 to 1.5 inch depth
- 6 to 8 inch rows are preferred
- Use 300 lbs of 19-19-19 or follow soil test
- Plants usually grow 30-40 inches in height depending on soil conditions.
- Check your label, sethoxydim could be used to control grass weeds.
