Forage Peas
Fertilizer
- Best Results: Follow your soil test.
- Without Test: Inoculate the seed and use 250 lbs of 13-13-13 per acre.

Herbicides
Start with a weed free seed bed
- Use Pursuit, Prowl or Treflan as a pre-emergent herbicide
- Post-emergent herbicides include Basagran Clethodim, or Pursuit (ALWAYS READ AND FOLLOW THE PESTICIDE LABEL). For example, Basagran may only be applied after 3 leaves or 4 nodes on the plant.
Planting Date
For best results, check with your local extension service for exact dates for your area. In general, peas can be planted after the last spring frost when the soil temperatures are above 65°, but no greater than 90°.
North: Late May or Early June
South: Late April to Early May
Planting Prep
Depth: Plant seeds ¾ to 1 inch deep into moist soil
Planting Rate: 75 lbs. per acre for broadcast
50 lbs. planted or drilled
Avoid planting before a rain since soils can crust and prevent proper emergence. Avoid planting into dry soil. Place seeds ¼ inch below the moisture line in the soil, but no deeper than 1½ inches.
